The Place: Charlestown Community Centre aims to promote an inclusive, supportive, connected and resilient community.
The Place's mission is to nuture individuals and groups within the community to develop a variety of social, support and educational activities that contribute to building community strength.
The Place is working towards achieving it's aim through providing a safe, well-appointed and professionally managed location for community members to come together in the spirit of sharing, learning and growing.
The Place: Charlestown Community Centre was developed by Lake Macquarie City Council in conjunction with The GPT Group.
The building is owned by The GPT Group, leased by Lake Macquarie City Council, and sub-leased to The Place. Council contributed the initial furniture and equipment required for The Place to commence operation.
'The Place: Charlestown Community Centre' is the trading name of 'Charlestown Youth and Community Centre Incorporated' (CYCCI). CYCCI is a not-for-profit incorporated association, formed as a joint initiative by Lake Macquarie City Council and The GPT Group. CYCCI has been appointed to manage and administer the community centre in an efficient and cost effective manner.
The Place (CYCCI) has a Board, Centre Manager and Staff. The Board shape the strategic direction for the centre, monitor it's operation, and ensure there are sufficient resources available to enable it's success. The Centre Manager and Staff are responsible for the day to day operations of the centre.
The Board is comprised of nine members, who are representatives from the community, Lake Macquarie City Council, and The GPT Group. The Board Members and their current roles are:

The Place staff team consists of a Centre Manager, Program & Events Coordinator, Sevice & Administration Assistant and Data & Tech Support.
The Place staff are supported by volunteers, who provide valuable assistance in ensuring the efficient operation of the centre. To enquire about volunteering at The Place, please contact us (click here).
The Place will receive partial funding from Lake Macquarie City Council during the first five years of operation. Income generated from venue hire at The Place is needed in order to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the centre.
The Place will seek opportunities to attract partnerships, sponsorship and grants as the centre develops. As a not-for-profit organisation, all income generated will directly benefit the centre and the community through service support and development, facility maintenance and improvements, and program and event delivery.
