15 Stories of Belonging: Dance For Fun Newcastle

A Place to Move, Connect and Belong

For nearly a decade, Dance for Fun Newcastle has been creating a space where movement meets community, confidence and connection.

For the past six years, The Place has been a special home for their classes in a welcoming environment where people of all ages and experience levels feel supported, inspired and seen.

At the heart of Dance for Fun is a simple philosophy: dance should be accessible, empowering and enjoyable for everyone. Whether someone is stepping into a class for the first time or continuing their dance journey, the focus is always on building confidence, encouraging self-expression and fostering a genuine sense of belonging.

With five classes running each week for both children and adults, their inclusive and flexible approach allows participants to grow at their own pace while being part of something bigger.

“More than just classes, we pride ourselves on creating a community where everyone feels valued, a place where people don’t just learn to dance but feel like they truly belong”.

Every week, people walk through the doors of The Place looking for connection and find so much more!

They find confidence.
They find community.
They find belonging.

For Dance for Fun Newcastle, The Place has been a partner in creating a thriving, inclusive community where people feel safe to express themselves and grow.

“We’re proud to celebrate this milestone with The Place, and grateful for the role it has played in helping our community grow and thrive.”

The Place is proud to be the first community organisation in NSW to take part in the NSW Device Bank Pilot Program, supporting more people in our community to get connected and build confidence online. Through the program, we helped allocate 30 refurbished laptops to local people in our community, including seniors, carers, people with disability and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Participants receive 12 months of free data, digital skills training and IT Support to help them make the most of their device. Delivered by NSW Telco Authority in partnership with WorkVentures and Good Things Australia, the NSW Device Bank Pilot Program is part of the NSW Government’s Digital Inclusion Strategy. The program helps bridge the digital divide by giving people access to the essential technology, connectivity and support needed in today’s digital world. We’re incredibly grateful for this opportunity for our local community and want to thank everyone who made it possible.
