Free School Holiday Intensive - Applications Open!

Calling all young creatives in Lake Macquarie and Newcastle! If you're aged 13 - 17 and looking for a space to express yourself, learn new skills, and connect with like-minded individuals, Polyphonic is calling your name.

Running through July at The Place Charlestown Community Centre, Polyphonic is an exciting, hands-on creative program that supports self-expression through music, performance, and storytelling. Whether you're into writing lyrics, singing, podcasting, or just finding your voice, this is your chance to shine.

What is Polyphonic?

Polyphonic is a 3-day inclusive music program for young people aged 13–17. This program was created by teenagers, for teenagers. Facilitated by a Registered Music Therapist, Polyphonic provides young people with the opportunity to learn instrument skills, experiment with music tech, and meet other young people. No musical experience is required—just an interest in making music! Teenagers with disability are encouraged to apply.

  • Explore creative and cultural identity
  • Build confidence in storytelling, music, and spoken word
  • Connect with professional mentors and fellow creatives
  • Learn real-world skills in a safe, inclusive, and fun environment

This is more than just a workshop—it's a platform for young people to develop their voice, share their stories, and build community through creativity.

The Place is proud to be the first community organisation in NSW to take part in the NSW Device Bank Pilot Program, supporting more people in our community to get connected and build confidence online. Through the program, we helped allocate 30 refurbished laptops to local people in our community, including seniors, carers, people with disability and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Participants receive 12 months of free data, digital skills training and IT Support to help them make the most of their device. Delivered by NSW Telco Authority in partnership with WorkVentures and Good Things Australia, the NSW Device Bank Pilot Program is part of the NSW Government’s Digital Inclusion Strategy. The program helps bridge the digital divide by giving people access to the essential technology, connectivity and support needed in today’s digital world. We’re incredibly grateful for this opportunity for our local community and want to thank everyone who made it possible.
