This program provides a demonstration of how to approach and pat a dog in the safest way, how to recognise if a dog does not want to be patted and who the child must ask before approaching these animals.

This program is provided by Taylor Wheeler – Dog Training Lifestyle, a certified dog behaviourist and trainer from Australia.

Our mum's sometimes find it hard dealing with a young child and a dog or puppy. We provide you and your bub information on how to keep safe around dogs by understanding dog communication.

Our aim is to reduce the number of dog bites and keep all kids safe by teaching them how to respect our canine friends.

Dogs make wonderful pets, and bring children such enjoyment, support, confidence and happiness.

Having a pet in the family teaches children responsibility and duty of care. Having a pet is proven to bring families closer and improve their communication skills.

It is such a wonderful experience, although parents need to be aware of the risk of injury towards our children and also the stress and injury that can be brought upon our dogs.

The number of dog bites every day around the world is overwhelming and 26% of these bites are kids. But this could be drastically reduced by educating the public and children on how to approach and treat an animal who may be stressed, scared or lacking social skills and human interaction.

We hope to improve and stop the number of dog bites each year. We provide tips and information on how you can prevent being bitten, and how to encourage our children to treat an animal with respect and gentle nature.

Additional Information:Please feel free to bring your bub along, they're more than welcome in our session. We will have our gorgeous pup, who will be there for the duration helping to demonstrate our tips on introduction. Parking is available in Charlestown Square Car Park.

As we reach the end of another year, I want to take a moment to reflect on all that we have achieved together. 2025 has been a year of connection, resilience, and community spirit at The Place Charlestown Community Centre. Whether you participated in a program, volunteered your time, partnered with us, or simply walked through our doors with a smile, your contribution has helped make our Centre a welcoming and vibrant space for all. This year has also highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by many in our community. Cost-of-living pressures, social isolation, and complex life circumstances continue to impact people in different ways. Yet, despite these realities, we have witnessed incredible compassion, generosity, and strength from individuals and groups across our community. As we enter the festive season, I encourage everyone to take the time to “fill your cup”, to rest, recharge, and spend time with those who lift you up. It’s important to look after ourselves so that we can continue to support others. At the same time, Christmas can be a difficult period for many. There are those who may be grieving, feeling lonely, or facing financial or emotional hardship. Let’s keep these community members in our thoughts and extend kindness wherever we can. A small gesture, a smile, a conversation, a check-in, a helping hand, can make a far bigger difference than we realise. Thank you for being part of our community this year. Your presence enriches The Place and strengthens the fabric of connection we are proud to foster. We look forward to sharing a new year filled with possibility, hope, and continued collaboration. Wishing you a safe, peaceful, and meaningful holiday season. Cristelle and the team at The Place
