New Podcast Episode: Questions From The Hat – Part 2!
The Placed To Speak Podcast - Giving Young People a Voice, One Conversation at a Time

The questions are back, and so are the laughs, honest conversations and unexpected insights! The latest episode of Placed to Speak, ‘Questions from the Hat – Part 2’ is here, bringing another entertaining mix of humour, creativity and meaningful conversations.
Created through our Place Based Abilities Program (PBA), Placed to Speak is more than just a podcast. It's a platform for young people with disability to share their experiences, express their ideas, build confidence and have their voices heard.
Questions from the Hat – Part 2
In the latest episode, host Ricky from ReadyUp Skills is joined by Shya, Emily and Tomas from the Place Based Abilities Program for another round of questions drawn at random. And as always, you never quite know where the conversation will lead! From dream experiences and hidden strengths to talking animals, life skills and future ambitions, the group shares their unique perspectives with plenty of humour, creativity and personality.
But among the laughs are some thoughtful and meaningful discussions. The young people explore topics including bullying and relationships, the challenges of becoming more independent, and their hopes and goals for the future. These conversations offer a glimpse into the experiences, interests and aspirations that make each person unique, while highlighting the importance of creating spaces where young people feel comfortable expressing themselves.
More Than Just a Podcast
Placed to Speak is an opportunity for young people to develop new skills, explore their creativity and grow in confidence while having a great time together. Through participating in the podcast, young people have opportunities to practise communication skills, share their opinions, listen to different perspectives and become more comfortable speaking in front of others.
Most importantly, the podcast provides a platform for authentic young voices, where participants can lead conversations, share their stories and talk about the things that matter to them. It's a great example of how creative activities can support personal development, build connections and encourage young people to express themselves.
About Our Place Based Abilities Program
The Place Based Abilities Program (PBA) is a free, inclusive community program delivered by The Place in collaboration with ReadyUp Skills. Designed for young people with disability the program creates opportunities to connect with others, develop skills, build confidence and participate in meaningful community experiences.
Through weekly activities, creative projects, social opportunities and inclusive community events, PBA encourages young people to explore their interests, form friendships, develop independence and have a say in the activities and experiences that matter to them.
The program also provides opportunities for young people to take an active role in shaping community events and activities, helping to create more inclusive spaces where everyone feels welcome and valued.
From community discos and creative workshops to projects like Placed to Speak, the program continues to demonstrate what can happen when young people are given opportunities to share their ideas, discover their strengths and participate in their community. With funding extended for another year we're excited to continue creating opportunities for young people with disability across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.
