Young Parents Group Final Farewell & Celebration

Date: Friday the 10th of February

Time: 12:15 - 1:30pm

Cost: FREE

In nine years of existence, Young Parents Group at The Place: Charlestown Community Centre has been a thriving, successful group that has made a difference in the lives of over 330 families and over 400 children. It was in 2011 that a young mother walked into The Place and expressed her wish for a sense of belonging in a group tailored for young parents. So began the journey for the development of Young Parents Group at The Place.

Over the years, the group has undergone an evolution from a fully funded facilitated program, to an unfunded unfacilitated group, and then into a collaborative group of pooled resources managed by the Place. Young Parents Group, through its collaborative model, has had the involvement and support of volunteers, parent leaders, and staff from The Family Action Centre, Lake Macquarie City Council, Ability Links (St. Vincent De Paul Society), and Our Community Place.

Improvements in the availability of local resources and supported playgroups for young parents however has decreased the need for the group at The Place and after consideration with our partner organisations we have decided to bid a final farewell to Young Parents Group at The Place. Although we’re sad that YPG is finishing up, we are INCREDIBLY PROUD of the difference this group has made to the lives of so many young people and families in our region. THANK YOU to all that have been involved in the YPG journey; organisations, funders, staff, volunteers, guests and to all the amazing families that have participated over the years. YPG wouldn’t have been what it was without you, and we wish you all the very best.

Although YPG won’t be continuing, we are still here for you. The Place and the YPG partner organisations are still here, please reach out if you need someone to talk to or if you’re looking for other services or groups to connect with.

As a final farewell, we invite you to join us for a final catch up on Friday the 10th of February from 12:15 - 1:30pm. If you can join us, we’d love to see you  We’ll be offering resources and referral information for families (so you know what other parenting groups/playgroups are available in the area). We also have lots of great items in our cupboards that we would love to share with our families! We hope you can make it.
