New Technology Opens up a World of Opportunities

COVID-19 has certainly had a major impact on our lives and has reminded us about the value and power of technology; allowing us to communicate via distance and stay connected.

This year we were incredibly grateful to receive funding through the Department of Communities and Justice, Social Sector Transformation Fund. This grant allowed us to be able to purchase new technology for our Centre, including three new interactive screens that our hirers can use. These screens, called ‘Maxhubs’ have an enormous range of capability and are perfect for things like online meetings, video calls, presentations, online collaborative activities as well as entertainment and fun.

They have a high quality display and sound with a range of useful features including a user-friendly interactive whiteboard, and they come at no extra cost for hirers to use. This technology opens up a world of opportunities for hirers and groups using our Centre and we can't wait to see all the wonderful ways they will be used to meet, connect, belong and grow.

We hope our community enjoys these new additions to our Centre. If you are interested in hiring one of our rooms and a Maxhub for your next activity or meeting contact us on (02) 4032 5500 or chat to our friendly reception staff.

The Place is proud to be the first community organisation in NSW to take part in the NSW Device Bank Pilot Program, supporting more people in our community to get connected and build confidence online. Through the program, we helped allocate 30 refurbished laptops to local people in our community, including seniors, carers, people with disability and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Participants receive 12 months of free data, digital skills training and IT Support to help them make the most of their device. Delivered by NSW Telco Authority in partnership with WorkVentures and Good Things Australia, the NSW Device Bank Pilot Program is part of the NSW Government’s Digital Inclusion Strategy. The program helps bridge the digital divide by giving people access to the essential technology, connectivity and support needed in today’s digital world. We’re incredibly grateful for this opportunity for our local community and want to thank everyone who made it possible.
