A FREE DANCE AND MUSIC EXTRAVAGANZA FOR YOUNG PEOPLE!

Welcome to a summer of music and dance at The Place Charlestown Community Centre. We're thrilled to present to you our Summer Sessions, a series of free events that promise to make your school holidays unforgettable. Here's your guide to the ultimate dance-filled experience:

Teen Takeover: Step Up & Dance Workshop for 12-15 Year Olds!

Hey teens, this one's tailor-made for you! Join our FREE dance workshop led by the fantastic TMP Dance Studio. You'll explore hip-hop grooves, funky moves, and more. It's a chance to learn new signature moves, enhance your coordination, flexibility, while enjoying teamwork in this dynamic 2-session workshop. Dress comfortably, bring a water bottle, and enjoy a supportive environment. Dance T-shirts, snacks and refreshments provided.

Silent Disco Extravaganza: Dance To Your Own Tunes!

Start the summer right with our epic FREE Silent Disco party for young people aged 12 – 24. Dance with your own set of wireless headphones, tuning into your preferred music channel. No worries about awkward dance moves or how loud the music is – in the silent realm, you're free to let loose, get loud and dance like nobody's watching. Neon lights, collective vibes, and unforgettable memories await! Refreshments and snacks provided.

Youth Takeover: Step Up & Dance Workshop for 16-24 Year Olds!

Our FREE dance workshop led by Dance for Fun Newcastle’s experienced instructor is your passport to the world of dance. From high-energy hip-hop to contemporary dance moves, there will be something for every musical taste. Join us for a 2-day workshop and embrace the joy of movement. No previous dance experience needed – just bring your enthusiasm and make sure you wear comfy clothes and shoes. Dance T-shirts, snacks and refreshments provided.

This course introduces conversational French for use in a variety of social settings. For beginners, and those wishing to revise basic skills. You will be helped to speak and understand right from the start. A relaxed, friendly course with opportunities to socialise and participate in cultural knowledge and activities. DAY CLASS: 6 sessions @ 2 hours per session on Wednesdays Start date: Wed 20 May 2026 (No class 24 June) Time: 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm OR EVENING CLASS: 6 sessions @ 2 hours per session on Mondays Start date: Mon 18 May 2026 (No class Mon 8 June) Time: 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm COST: $150 for the 6 week course, payable before commencement. Celebrating 15 Years of Belonging With Our Community

You’re invited to celebrate a very special milestone for The Place as we mark 15 years of community, connection and belonging in Lake Macquarie. To honour this journey, we’re hosting a community celebration on Friday the 1st of May from 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm and everyone is welcome! The afternoon will feature our ' 15 Years of Belonging' public photo exhibition, showcasing the people, programs and moments that have shaped The Place over the years. We’ll also host a special community recognition event celebrating our long-standing groups and the incredible individuals who have helped shape The Place and what it is today. Enjoy food, music, entertainment and connection as we come together to celebrate our diverse and vibrant community. Whether you’ve been part of The Place for years or are visiting for the first time, we’d love you to join us. This is a free event open to the whole community, however RSVPs are essential.
