15 Years – 15 Stories of Belonging - Community Disability Alliance Hunter (CDAH)
Building a strong, peer-led community for people with disability
For over a decade Community Disability Alliance Hunter (CDAH) has been an integral part of The Place, building a strong, peer-led community for people with disability.
As an organisation run by and for people with disability, CDAH champions voice, choice and control—creating opportunities for individuals to connect, share experiences and shape more inclusive communities.
“The Place has been close to the heart of CDAH since the very beginning,” CDAH shared.
“We hosted our first workshops there when the NDIS first began its rollout in 2012 and it helped to shape the community we are today. The Place holds special significance for us, as it was a space where connections first formed, the community was strengthened, and some of the core foundations of CDAH were built.”
Today, that connection continues through regular gatherings like their Art Group, where self-expression, laughter and community come to life—reflecting the power of belonging and collective strength.
"We still utilise The Place, with our Art Group meeting each fortnight, making the most of the gorgeous open room at the front of the building, which quickly fills with our creativity, laughter and conversation. The Place has made so many things possible for this community to come together and bring it all to life.”
As we celebrate 15 years of The Place we’re proud to recognise the long-standing connection between The Place and CDAH and acknowledge the incredibly important work they do in our community.
